Worldwide Assurance for Employees of Public Agencies (WAEPA) has provided Group Term Life Insurance and other resources tailored specifically to Civilian Federal Employees since 1943. Department of Energy employees may qualify for services under WAEPA.
Coverage from WAEPA is fully portable, yours to keep even if you change jobs or retire. Compared to FEGLI, WAEPA provides lower costs and premiums for members across several age groups.

Provides up to $1.5 million in coverage for eligible members, which will not be lost if you change jobs or retire – even after leaving the federal government. An eligible member’s coverage also extends to spouse and children.
WAEPA Group Short-Term Disability Insurance**, can cover up to $6,500 a month to replace your lost income, if you’re out of work due to a covered illness or injury.
Qualifying federal employees, including DOE employees, cannot be turned down coverage for up to $100,000 within their first year of hire. If you qualify for this offer, you do not need to undergo medical underwriting to receive coverage.
