Coverage For Current and Former Feds
Understanding Group Term Life Insurance
Group Term Life Insurance* is a type of life insurance where one contract covers multiple people or a group of people. This allows for group rates for each policy issued under a single contract. WAEPA’s rates were negotiated using the group buying power of more than 50,000 members.
WAEPA offers Group Term Life insurance to current and former Civilian Federal Employees as its primary life insurance option and Guaranteed Issue Group Term Life to new Civilian Federal Employees—within the first year of service.
WAEPA’s rates are calculated for the group rather than for individuals, so our rates are exclusively priced for current and former Civilian Federal Employees.
Former Feds, You Still Qualify for WAEPA’s Exclusive Coverage
Why Former Feds May Pay Less for Life Insurance from WAEPA
WAEPA was founded in 1943 to serve Civilian Federal Employees, and today, this includes former Feds.
As a former Fed, you may qualify for exclusive life insurance coverage, no matter how long you were in Federal service or when you left. WAEPA’s coverage is fully portable, yours to keep through any additional job or life changes.
More than 50,000 Feds and their families rely on WAEPA to be there for life’s biggest moments.
Why WAEPA if I already have coverage through my employer?
- Employer-provided life insurance is often tied to your job and won’t stay with you once you leave
- WAEPA’s coverage is fully portable, yours to keep even if you change jobs or retire
- WAEPA’s offers up to $1.5 million in coverage that can be added to any existing policy you have to increase your overall level of protection
Before You Choose Private, Compare
As a former Federal employee, you’ve expanded your horizons since leaving the government, which may include your life insurance options.
You have your pick of private-sector life insurance providers, but you might still save with WAEPA’s exclusive rates. Your years of Federal service qualifies you to apply for our life insurance coverage.
Here’s how much a 44-year-old man* might save on $500,000 in WAEPA coverage, using savings examples drawn from publicly available 20-year level term estimates:
| Compared to | Estimated Savings |
|---|---|
| Nationwide | $324.28 |
| Prudential | $329.88 |
| Progressive | $435.48 |
Former Civilian Federal Employees may still qualify for WAEPA coverage and other benefits once reserved for current Feds. WAEPA coverage is portable, so it can stay with you through job changes.
