Donation will go to support families of healthcare workers who have lost their lives fighting COVID-19

Falls Church, VA., May 6, 2020: WAEPA (Worldwide Assurance for Employees of Public Agencies) announced that the organization will contribute $5,000 to the Brave of Heart Fund at E4E Relief, which will support families of healthcare workers who have lost their lives in the fight against COVID-19.

The Brave of Heart Fund at E4E was created in partnership by the New York Life Foundation and the Cigna Foundation to provide support through charitable grants to families of healthcare workers who have lost their lives in the fight against COVID-19. Both the New York Life Foundation and the Cigna Foundation have agreed to support the fund with an initial $25 million contribution. In addition, the New York Life Foundation will provide a dollar-for-dollar match on the first $25 million of individual donations received. Beyond just financial support, the Cigna Foundation will provide families who receive funds with access to emotional and behavioral health services by phone and online.

“In these uncertain times, I’m proud that WAEPA can do its part in contributing to supporting those on the frontlines battling this crisis. We’re happy to support our underwriter, New York Life, as well as the New York Life Foundation with this great cause,” said M. Shane Canfield, CEO of WAEPA.

“Thank you to WAEPA for their contribution to these charitable grants. We’re proud to work with an organization that understands the importance of supporting our healthcare workers during this time,” said Scott Berlin, Senior Vice President of the Group Membership Association Division at New York Life Insurance Company.

Throughout times of uncertainty, WAEPA is proud to support those in need and is inspired by the courage and dedication of our healthcare workers fighting on the front lines of this pandemic. WAEPA is also proud to support New York Life and Cigna in this effort, both of which are current and former partners in providing life insurance to our members.
