Our Commitment to Racial Equity: WAEPA CEO Shane Canfield’s Full Remarks

For 77 years, WAEPA has been dedicated to providing life insurance for Civilian Federal employees. Our mission remains unchanged and unwavering. 46,000 Federal employees rely on us to protect their loved ones’ financial futures. This is and remains our mission.

However, during the past few weeks, we have seen divisiveness in our nation that is deep and wide, and it must be addressed. Racism and bigotry have no place in our great nation. The many horrific injustices against African Americans must end now. The protests clearly show the widespread call for inclusiveness, peace and justice–and reflect the deep pain felt by millions of those in our nation about the racial injustices that still impact our society. We believe in and support peaceful protests to create change.

Here at WAEPA, we have always championed diversity and inclusion in our workplace and with our membership programs. We will continue to honor all our staff and members with compassion, dignity, and respect. We strongly support the work of our members who serve people from all over the country and in all walks of life. We know our members will be part of the solution in promoting equality and inclusion, as they always have. And WAEPA will continue to be here to steadfastly support them.

America can and will overcome racial injustice. It will take work. We at WAEPA are committed to do our part to make this desperately needed change come to pass.
