Shane Canfield, CEO of WAEPA

Shane Canfield is the CEO of Worldwide Assurance for Employees of Public Agencies (WAEPA) in Falls Church, Virginia. In this role, Shane strategically leads the operations of the 75-year-old organization, which offers Group Term Life Insurance and Financial Education to Civilian Federal Employees. Shane has been working in the field business of pooled risk insurance programs and reporting to nonprofit boards for 25 years, serving previously as Executive Director for the Council on Employee Benefits. He has a BS in Business Administration from Washington Adventist University, MBA from George Mason and among others, holds the CEBS, SPHR, RHU and CAE professional designations.

Jean Chatzky, Personal Financial Expert, Today and The Oprah Winfrey Show

Jean Chatzky, the financial editor for NBC’s TODAY show, is an award-winning personal finance journalist, AARP’s personal finance ambassador and host of the podcast, HerMoney with Jean Chatzky, on iTunes. Jean is a best-selling author; her most recent books are Operation Money, a free financial guide for military service members and families; and Money Rules: The Simple Path to Lifelong Security. She believes knowing how to manage our money is one of the most important life skills for people at every age and has made it her mission to help simplify money matters, increasing financial literacy both now and for the future. In 2015, Jean teamed up with Time for Kids and The PwC Charitable Foundation to launch Your $, a financial literacy magazine reaching 2 million schoolchildren each month. She lives with her family in Westchester County, New York.

Francis Rose, Host of Government Matters on Washington D.C.’s WJLA/ABC7

Francis Rose is an award-winning broadcaster, journalist, speaker, writer, and host of Government Matters on Washington, DC’s ABC7 and WJLA 24/7 News. He has covered all three branches of the federal government as a broadcast journalist since 1998. He was host of “In Depth with Francis Rose” on Federal News Radio from 2008 to 2015 after joining the station in 2006. His guest list has included virtually every important name in the federal government.

Francis’s first book, “The OPM Cyber Breach: An In Depth Look at the Worst Cyber Attack in Government History” is available on Amazon. Francis is highly sought-after as a speaker and moderator of high-profile events in the federal community. His 30-year broadcast career includes stops at America’s leading broadcasters, including ABC Radio, CBS Radio, Westwood One, and C-SPAN.

Walt Francis, Author, “Checkbook’s Guide to Health Plans for Federal Employees”

Walton Francis is a self-employed economist and policy analyst, expert in the analysis and evaluation of public programs. He has written on a wide range of subjects including program evaluation, statistical analysis, managed health care, and retirement benefits. His education includes Master’s degrees from Yale and Harvard universities. He developed regulatory, budgetary, and legislative reforms for many policies and programs while working at the Office of Management and Budget and in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services. He pioneered the systematic comparison of health insurance plans from a consumer perspective, starting with the 1979 edition of the Guide. He has published articles and testified several times before Congress on the Federal Employees Health Benefits and Medicare programs. He evaluated both programs’ performance in Putting Medicare Consumers in Charge: Lessons from the FEHBP.

 

Linda Harris, Federal Benefits Specialist and Human Resources Professional

Linda Harris is a Federal Benefits Specialist and Human Resource Professional. She provides consulting in various areas which include Federal Employee Benefits, instructor delivery, management and supervision, and sexual harassment prevention. Ms. Harris brings to the classroom more than 37 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, and has been with NITP 19 of those years as a Federal Benefits presenter. Her training includes 21 years with OPM, Office of Retirement Programs. This included extensive comprehensive training in Employee and Retired Employee Benefits for Interagency personnel specialists and other employees. In 2012, she returned to Federal Service as the Human Resources Retirement Specialist for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In 2016, she retired from the government and returned to NITP. She has presented benefits training nationally to more than 300,000 Federal employees. Currently, in addition to her NITP presentations, Ms. Harris serves as a consultant and training instructor for Charles County Community College’s Business and Industry Programs and is a member of the American Society for Training and Development and the Better Business Bureau.

She has an Executive MS in management, University of Maryland College and has extensive training in Quality Management from GW University. Ms. Harris is a Certified Myers-Briggs Indicator Practitioner.
