2020 WAEPA Federal Summit and Annual Member Meeting
The 2020 WAEPA Federal Summit and 4th Annual Member Meeting will take place virtually on October 22, 2020 from 9 – 11:30 am ET.
Civilian Federal Employees will hear from industry leaders on the state of the federal job market, financial wellness, retirement planning, and the impact of COVID-19 on the federal workforce. Events will include a plenary address from expert federal career coach, Alex Tremble, and a panel discussion with federal experts Mike Causey, Tammy Flanagan, and Ed Zurndorfer.
Registration is free, and all Civilian Federal Employees are welcome.
Meet Our Speakers
M. Shane Canfield | CEO, WAEPA
M. Shane Canfield brings more than 25 years of experience in insurance and non-profit leadership to WAEPA.
Shane came to WAEPA in 2016 and served previously as Executive Director of the Council on Employee Benefits. He has spent most of his career in the pooled-risk group/affinity insurance industry. In his role as WAEPA CEO, Shane is responsible for strategic planning and leadership, managing stakeholder relationships, and serving our Board of Directors in organizational oversight. With extensive experience in coalition building, government relations, and reporting to Boards, Shane leads WAEPA by consistently prioritizing member satisfaction, membership growth, and retention.
He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from George Mason University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Washington Adventist University, and is a board member for the Council of HR Management Associations, member of LIMRA, PIMA, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), and is a past board member of the ASAE Business Services Inc. Additionally, Shane holds various certifications, including CEBS, RHU, CAE, SPHR, and SHRM-SCP.
Alex D. Tremble | The Federal Career Coach
Alex D. Tremble is an award- winning speaker, author, and leadership expert who also has over 10 years of experience coaching and advising some of our nation’s most senior level government leaders. Alex began his career managing three government-wide senior leadership development programs, multiple leadership pipeline mentoring programs, and the executive development program for a U.S. government cabinet level agency. He then quickly went on to establish GPS Leadership Solutions LLC., while publishing two bestselling books (“Reaching Senior Leadership” and “The GPS Guide to Success”) geared towards helping government leaders reach career success. Mike Causey | Columnist and Host, Federal News Network
Mike Causey is the authority on federal pay, benefits and retirement. He is the longest running federal expert on these issues in the industry. For over 40 years, Mike has been covering federal benefits and is relied on as a resource to federal employees. Past media organization include the Washington Post and the past 20 years on Federal News Network. Tammy Flanagan | Federal Benefits and Retirement Expert
Tammy Flanagan has been providing retirement planning assistance to federal employees since 1985 when she first began her work as a retirement benefits specialist at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her extensive knowledge of the federal benefits systems and her ability to explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner has made her a sought after speaker and presenter at pre-retirement seminars, training conferences and online training events. Tammy provides retirement counseling through RetireFederal.com, is a member of and trainer with NARFE, and is the Senior Benefits Director for the National Institute of Transition Planning, Inc. Since 2006, she has authored the popular weekly “Retirement Planning” column for Government Executive, and is a frequent co-host of the “For Your Benefit” and guest of “Your Turn with Mike Causey” radio programs.
Ed Zurndorfer | Federal Benefits Specialist and CFP®
Edward A. Zurndorfer is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist and Enrolled Agent in Silver Spring, MD and the owner of EZ Accounting and Financial Services, an accounting, tax preparation and financial planning firm also located in Silver Spring, MD. He is a seminar speaker at federal employee retirement seminars throughout the country and has written numerous publications on federal retirement topics.
