Joining WAEPA Under Open Enrollment
Life Insurance for newly hired federal employees:
$25,000 or $50,000 of open enrollment life insurance coverage is now available to all newly hired civilian federal employees. No medical examination is required.
You must apply within 180 days of your first-time, non-military, government hire date. You are not eligible if you have moved from one federal position to another. You must be a U.S. citizen and less than 65 years of age.

WAEPA provides an additional benefit for accidental death and dismemberment at no additional cost. If death results from an accident while you are riding on a common carrier (such as an airline, bus, train, or ship) as a paying passenger, an additional benefit will be payable to your beneficiary.
