In Case of Accident

WAEPA provides an additional benefit for accidental death and dismemberment at no additional cost! For a detailed breakdown of benefit payouts, see the table below.

The accident must occur while you are insured, and loss must occur within 90 days after the date of the accident.

WHAT IS COVERED

If, while insured for these benefits, you receive a bodily injury covered by these benefits, and have any losses named in the table below, benefits are payable as shown in the table. The losses must (a) be caused exclusively by external and accidental means; (b) be the result of the injury, directly and independently of all other causes; and c) occur within ninety days after you receive the injury.

All benefits other than for loss of life will be paid to you. Benefits for loss of life will be paid to your beneficiary. You may change your beneficiary at any time. To do so you must give written notice to Connecticut General.

The amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits is paid for loss of:

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

No benefits will be paid for losses resulting from or caused directly or indirectly by:

  1. bodily or mental infirmity
  2. disease or illness of any kind
  3. self-destruction or intentionally
    self-inflicted injury
  4. war, if declared or not; an act of
    war or service in any military
    force of any country while such country is engaged in war
  5. doing police duty as a member
    of a military organization
  6. taking part in, or as a result of taking part in, commission of a felony
  7. a drug, unless taken as
    prescribed by a doctor
  8. poison, gas or fumes, taken, administered or inhaled, except
    for an accident due to employment with any employer or self
    employment and caused by a
    risk related to that employment.
  9. injury sustained in, or on, any vehicle or device for aerial navigation, except as a passenger in a previously tested and approved aircraft, other than experimental or prototype aircraft.

One-half the amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits is paid for loss of:

  • One hand, or
  • One foot, or
  • Sight of one eye
Loss of hand or foot means loss by cutting off at or above the wrist or ankle joint. Loss of sight means total loss that cannot be recovered.

If you have more than one loss due to one accident, payment will be made only for the loss with the largest benefit. Payment will be made only for the loss that results from the accident without regard to any former loss.
